What is World Maritime Day 2019 ?
We have learnt about the different themes of the celebration but do we know the detailed in meaning of the World Maritime Day 2019. Well, the day is a global observance which focuses on bringing in a sustainable environment for the Maritime Industry. It has always been a very significant medium for the global trade. There are many treaties that tie countries and their trade factors hence it is very important that there is effective to and fro of the materials.
Hence, to promote effective maritime activities and their respective safety, the United Nations formed a separate entity called the IMO ( International Maritime Organisation) in the International Conference of Geneva in the year 1948. The main areas of work for which were Environmental Concerns, Legal Matters, Efficiency in Shipping and Safety Concerns etc.
The IMO made its first convention entry into to the force in the year 1958 which is why the first World Maritime Day 2019 was first celebrated in the year 1978 on March 17th. The IMO presently comprises of 167 states and 3 other member states who work towards the maritime efficiency and safety.
